well, the MPE style numbering is in the last 8 columns, so
a /bin/tobyte -at will make them visible and part of the text
to be edited...
so only UNNumbered input files make sense, unless you want to
manually take care of not breaking the numbering when inserting
lines ;-)

i believe, ted's program was called BYTECNVT,
but i don't know where the latest version resides
on the web (no longer @ southern.edu, i think)
