Closer examination of the 918LX internals reveals that the ribbon
cable for the scsi devices begins at the extreme left hand side of
the io device cage (when looking at the unit from the front as
mounted in a rack) or the bottom of the unit is stood on end. This
connector is attached to one of the 2 5.25" full height HDD drives
(presumably ldev1) which no doubt possesses the internal terminator
required. The rest of the ribbon cable accessible from within the
i/o bay cage has three additional crimp connectors (for a total of
four internal 50 pin socket connectors).

The next connector after the first is connected to another full
height 5.25" HDD, the next after that to the half height 5.25" DDS
drive and the last to the adapter attached to the new 3.5" 18 Gb
disc. I can only guess at the LUNs for the installed devices but I
infer from the MAPPER addresses that 0=ldev7 (DDS), 5=ldev2 (HDD),
6=ldev1 (HDD), 8=ldev6 (pseudo printer), 9=ldev10 (streams device)
and 7 is apparently reserved for the scsi controller card itself.

Anyway. This has gone on far longer than anticipated and I have
brought the system back up in its previous state. I will request
additional guidance tomorrow (I have left the new drive connected
and powered up as it seems presently to be invisible to the
system). If we can get this working then great, if not then I can
always fall back on an external device.

Thanks to everyone for all the help.

Regards,
Jim
