Jim,

A couple of thoughts. Which version of store do you have ? (Regular store,
Turbostore/iX II or Turbostore/iX 7x24 True Online) The two later versions
give you the option of using compression when storing and will save you a
significant amount of disc space and perhaps reduce the priority on
obtaining a larger drive. I believe the store file foot print was reduced
by 66% (your mileage may very). If you off-load (FTP) to another server,
you only require enough on the user volume set to do that days backups.
Also, in the event that you don't have either of the versions of store that
have the ability to compress, there is a built in demo in store that can be
activated for a 90 day trial period.

Regards,

Reid E. Baxter

Because I no longer have a clue about what is current best practice
with respect to HP3000/9x8 performance, if I ever did. The present
system

This is a marginal issue for us as the existing system gives more
than adequate performace. We simply wish, at minimum cost, to
increase the disc capacity sufficiently to hold backups on disc
until they can be moved off via the network. The savings are all
had in the reduction of labour expense associated with tape
archives and associated records management. The other major
benefit is automating off-site storage transmission.

Regards,
Jim
