And Letterman assures us that there will be TV in hell, so there may well be
VCRs. I have no idea whether or not their will be oil companies, but there
could be politicing.

But what devices does this change affect? What is the chance that those
devices will be patched, versus those devices behaving problematically for
the difference between the old standard and the new standard (at least one
of which is an oxymoron)? And, what devices will have to be retired, for
what reasons?

For instance, credit card PCI requirements include that systems synchronize
their clocks. Will companies that process credit cards need to retire some
older devices?
