I am not familiar with the specific disk array you are using, but I am
running systems with the 12H(older) and the 7110(newer)disc arrays.  I use
autoraid configuration with LDEV1 and others configured on the array.  I
have lost drives and not had any loss of data.  Originally, on the 12H, when
that system had only 5 drives, I lost a drive, and the system became very
slow.  It was our production system at that time.  Though there was no data
loss, the performance suffered due to 20% disc I/O capacity loss.  When I
installed the replacement systems with the 7110s, I filled the array to
capacity.  Though it is much more disc than I really need, I get the I/O
throughput I require.  I hope this helps.
