It IS critical to have involved and interested parents since they are
often the only ones interested in making sure their children learn
anything at all.  Let's just stop laying the blame at the feet of this
person or that person and recognize that we all have a responsibility to
bear when it comes to preparing the next generation to take care of us
in our old age.

Wasn't there a news story not long ago about a student suspended for
saving his girl friends life by letting her use his inhaler.  Parental
involvement did not get him reinstated...
