What are the contents of "filename"?

I believe the message needs to end with a . on a line by itself for
sendmail to know that the message is properly terminated, just like if
you were doing a "sendmail -v" and typing in the message
interactively.

Look in your sendmail.cf and tell me what the value of DS is.

Have you bought that O'Reilly Sendmail book (
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1565928393/qid=1109951970/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-5592829-8862547?v=glance&s=books&n=507846
) yet? I swear, sendmail somehow knows if you have that book, and just
having it on the shelf seems to straighten things out even if you
never open it. If nothing else, it gives great descriptions of the
various testing and debugging modes for Sendmail that can help you
work through all kinds of rules and routing issues.
