I have been informed that the County Commission is contemplating whether or
not to cut funds from the public libraries again.

As a child, my mother used to put all four of her children into the car
once a week in the summertime when we didn't have access to the school
library and take us to the McCallie Avenue library (which is currently
Fletcher Hall) where we got enough books to keep us out of mischief for one
more week. It is one of the best memories of my childhood and, I believe,
helped all of us tremendously as children with our grades.

Last year, due to budget cuts, the library in Ooltewah was threatend with
closing.

My county commissioner is Curtis Adams and I have emailed him at
[log in to unmask] asking for his support for public libraries.

I am asking that, if you love having public libraries available for you and
for your children and grandchildren that you email your county commissioner
also. The following list gives the names of the county commissioners for
each district.

District 1 (Skillern)
District 2 (Casavant)
District 3 (Vandegriff)
District 4 (Cotton)
District 5 (Favors)
District 6 (Miller)
District 7 (Coker)
District 8 (Adams)
District 9 (Hullander)

I'm sure that Dr. Casavant will correct me if any of these are
incorrect. I am assuming that the email is the same with all of them
except to change the District number.

Thank you. I've said many times that when I retire, all I need is good
health, food, shelter, and access to a good library.
