What I find most disappointing about all the news reports is the
widespread assumption that the new CEO will again be an HP outsider. It
would appear that the board has decided that the "HP Way" is a quaint
anachronism with no place in the 21st century. There is no way in the
post-Fiorina phase of HP's history that the HP Way can be restored
without the leadership of someone who was there during its heyday.

The Cringely article makes a valid point that the old HP knew nothing
about marketing, but all the marketing expertise in the world is useless
if you don't have desirable products to sell. The old HP culture
produced excellent products with excellent support. Marketing focus and
expertise can be added on without tearing down the HP Way culture, it
seems to me.
