In response to Dr. Russell's question of starting summer term earlier, I
just thought I would throw in a small point of memory concerning summer
school changes.
Didn't we, at one time, plan (or even try one summer--my memory fails in
old age!) the same or similar changes to the summer schedule but had to
revert to the current terms due to enrollment problems? As I recall, many
of our summer classes are filled with public and private school teachers
seeking re-certification, either in Education or teaching area (e.g.,
biology, math, English). Due to public school calendars in our service
area, these prospective enrollees could not register for classes offered
earlier than their term end dates. It resulted in a considerable amount of
possibly lost revenue and fewer class offerings required.
As I said, I may be remembering incorrectly. I, too, believe adjustments
to the schedule are long overdue (could Records/Registration Office PLEASE
have a wee bit more time to verify grades for graduation candidates??), but
I just wondered if the proposed term changes are in the best interests of
our students.
