You've seen other replies on this subject, but one of the problems
you're going to have to work-around is that each normal spoolfile (ie
each file in "out.hpspool") is automatically allocated a unique spoolid
number; whereas if you force the spoolfile to disc you have to create
your own numbering system.

It might be easier to consider having a dummmy printer, but setting the
outfence on that printer so that spoolfiles to that printer never
actually go anywhere. Then you need to write a small background
processes that periodically looks for spoolfiles on that printer and
runs some conversion process (e.g to PDF) on each spoolfile. Once you
have processed a spoolfile, you could delete it or alter it in such a
way that it doesn't requalify for the conversion process the next time
around.

If you like the idea of the above approach, I can recommend Spoolpdf
and openpdf from openseas.co.uk and there are other packages to convert
file to PDF. The PDF files can be transferred to the user's local PC
using a simple binary transfer. (either FTP or terminal emulator).

Another approach is to possibly use something like NBSPOOL from
Orbit(which we also use, but only to transfer spoolfiles from the HP3000
to the windows printer server).

Subject: [HP3000-L] Spooling to Disk

Hello All,

I'm wondering if there is a way so setup a printer device on the HP3000
that simply writes the spool files to disk rather than printing them on
a printer.
I'm trying to find a solution for users that work from home and need to
print reports on a local printer.

Thanks,
Pete
