Years ago I visited my sister who then lived in a Chicago suburb, Homewood.

I went at Christmas. That I the coldest place I have ever gone to - and I
lived in Wichita through the winter.

The rule there was "wear whatever it takes to keep from freezing". You'd see
commuters waiting for the subway - or whatever they call it there - in
multi-layered clothing.

One thing about the cold back there - you can have beautiful days with an
almost deep- blue sky and -20F.
