Paul,

INTEGER OVERFLOW in MPEFILETYPE sounds a little bit like an
issue reported some time ago (on MPE/iX 6.5) and related to
the patching tools and OCTCOMP translation of SL.PUB.SYS.

The Google archives of HP3000-L have a couple of entries that
mention an HP Service Request SR 8606232211 (KBRC00007442) as
well as some manual workaround including a URL to Jazz with a
script to retranslate the SL properly. I seem to also vaguely
recall that it might be possible to disable the incorrectly
translated segment and run it in CM emulated mode somehow.

(http://groups.google.de/groups?group=comp.sys.hp.mpe -> search)

However, that OCTCOMP issue was reported for MPE/iX 6.5 and
maybe does not apply in your case. As you have been in contact
with HP support already, you might want to check with them.

Lars.
