Nigel,

you probably want to check out the use of remsh instead
of telnet for your specific purpose. Telnet is not meant
for scripting (and I seem to recall that either the MPE
or UX documentation explicitly mentions it somewhere).

Here is a Communicator article from the time when REMSH
client was introduced on MPE/iX. Just watch out for some
small gotcha in the .rhosts files... case sensitivity ;)
