At what point does something become a proven technology? Eloquence has been
deployed in production for at least 16 years that I know of. It is in use
in at least 3000 sites.
Eloquence use preceeds the application as a TurboIMAGE for MPE replacement.
It was originally developed to replace IMAGE/250 on another obsolete
platform. It did such a good job that HP Germany bought the product. In
1998, I lead a project to have Eloquence adapted for use on HP-UX as a
replacment for TuroboIMAGE. The customer was Summit Information Systems an
ISV that specializes in supplying applications to credit unions.
I am no longer involved with Summit, however, as I understand it they are
very happy with Eloquence. I'm afraid the Oracle consultant is misinformed.
BTW, how long has Oracle been deployed?

Subject: Eloquence
Hi all,
A consultant here (umm, a 'Oracle is the only DB in the world'
consultant) made a statement that the Eloquence DB is not a proven
technology. I checked the archives, but I could not actually find one case
where a company has fully moved off the 3k (turned it off), and on to UNIX
via Eloquence.
While I may have missed this in the search, It'd be great to hear of
someone/anyone who actually has fully migrated off the 3k, and are using
Eloquence as the DB replacement for IMAGE.
TIA,
Ray Shahan
