AHA!
You and Tracy were USEing the file, whereas I was XEQing the file.
I tried using the command file and reproduced the error.
Therefore, Qedit obviously handles use files and command files
differently.
Can't really suggest anything else.
Greg.

hmmm, I've got QEdit 5.4 on MPE 6.0, but it doesn't work for me.
Could it be a forgotten (on my part) SET command that you have
in a QeditMGR file?
/use k
/input xx;prompt="Input:"
Input:abc
/echo !xx
abc
/echo
//l[/
1 xyz
2 xyz
3 xyz
4 xyz
5 xyz
/echo
//c1"!xx"@
1 !xx xyz
2 !xx xyz
3 !xx xyz
4 !xx xyz
5 !xx xyz
5 lines changed
/echo
//l[/
1 !xx xyz
2 !xx xyz
3 !xx xyz
4 !xx xyz
5 !xx xyz
