If anything should be taxed at an outrageous price (as cigarettes are here,
for example -- they're actually cheaper in Europe now), it *should* be
gasoline.

Europeans have no choice but to pay for it. They are also much more
conservative in their use of automobiles and tend to utilize public
transportationa and (gasp) actually walk and ride bicycles.

Sometimes, and I know this is hard to believe, people in Europe WALK JUST
FOR FUN.

Some days, I just hate this country. Sorry to offend all you
conservatives.

                      Please respond to denys

That's because it's taxed at an outrageous price and Europeans pay it.

Denys

Have any of you ever paid for gas in Europe?

I doubt you'd be buying your gas-guzzling SUVs and Hummers there.

I see that now. My mistake, I ASSUMED you would base this on an annual
basis, like most other sites do.

The site asked for avg miles per WEEK. At 12000 a week you would be
rarely at home :)

I went to the first link below and out of curiosity I clicked on the
link to calculate my gas tax under Kerry. I think this link will cause
some red faces for GAB and friends. I entered as my vehicle a 2000
Chevy. Malibu and calculated 12,000 average miles a year for the state
of Idaho.

Here's the link: http://www.georgewbush.com/calculator/

The calculation they came back with must be using some NEW math formula.

Here's their calculation:

Your Cost at the Pump is increased by:
Yearly gas tax increase = $12,514.29
Total yearly bill would = $62,621.49
Total monthly bill would = $4,803.84
Total weekly bill would = $1,200.96

It's not just France that is blocked. It was reported last week on
another list by a poster from Sweden.
