I've always wondered what happened to Denys that changed him from once a
Canadian lad, into something so far right of centre that he now considers
Canadians and Europeans to be socialists. I don't know if it was "The
American Dream". More likely it was some tragic event is his childhood
rearing by hippie leftist parents. Kind of like what happened to Ned
Flanders. (I get most of my views on what America is like from the Simpsons
:-).

There's a French Canadian folk song (Un Canadien Errant), which is often
brought to mind when I read Denys posts. The English words go:
Once a Canadian lad,
Exiled from hearth and home,
Wandered, alone and sad,
Through alien lands unknown.

If you and your First Lady are ever exiled, you should consider Canada. We'd
even forego the one-year waiting list (it's just there to keep the Americans
out :-). The one drawback is that in Quebec, it might be a while before
either of you are fluent in the "local language".

Bruce

My dear Denys, you know better, I really think so. At some point in your
life, you were living outside the USA, and "something" attracted you in the
Great Land of John Steinbeck, Woody Guthrie and Bruce Springsteen. That
"something" is the American Dream I am referring to : the set of reasons
that can attract a decent person (I always assumed you are one, and I stand
by my position) out of his/her native land into the USA. As you know from
history, the main export from Europe to the USA for most of the late-19th
and early-20th century was Europeans. And as you know from not-so-old mail
exchanges, I almost got attracted at least half a dozen times, first in
1989, last in 1998. The reasons why I did not move to the States have
nothing to do with politics, but everything to do with my own First Lady
unable to use her diploma to find work in the USA and, by her own reckoning,
not being fluent enough to really use the local language.

That being said, I now have a huge dilemma : If I ever were to become an
exile, for whatever reason (most likely economic), where would I consider
moving ? The USA is still high on my list but, according to recent
statements (including a few of my own), I'm not sure the current
Administration would want me in !

Now, Denys, you wrote :

See above.

Perhaps not the most logical way, but I agree you are dealing with it.

My business no longer depends on the 3000. I've dealt with that long ago.
