It is very difficult to isolate a batch process that is calling
dbput/update/delete
from interactive processes that also access that database. If the batch job
gets any CPU it will generate IOs and locks.

One tool/secret that I use is Glance/iX. If you don't have this HP product,
you can download a demo version that is good for 120 days. (see below)

Glance makes it easy to get Disc IO statistics. The 'D' command takes
you to the disc detail screen. The top section displays one line for each
disc drive. This line shows the logical device number, utilization for the
interval (%), Average Service Time, physical read rate, physical write
rate, and the current, average and maximum queue lengths.

Given that you have added discs and do regular capacity management,
you may have inadvertently moved  the IO to a smaller number of
discs. The disc IO statistics will show the spread of the IO and the queue
lengths that may be at the root of your problem.
