We used the product for many years and were very happy with it. We only stopped using it when we recently upgraded to N-class servers. The reasons were (1) that the product was too expensive on the N-class servers and (2) we were able to replace it with a bespoke shadowing solution that has prepared our HP3000 for migration.

One word of warning - you said you have a mix of update and read-only jobs. In shareplex, all updates are made on the primary server even if the process is running on the shadow server. We found this slowed down the update processes when they ran on the DR server. (Although I must qualify this statement with the comment that we don't use Image and I believe shareplex is far more intelligent when it comes to cross machine updates of Image databases). Just before we upgraded to the N-class servers, I was considering off-loading some overnight jobs onto the DR server, but the complexities of synchronising when the jobs should run put me off. In fact, when we upgraded our server, the new N-class was so fast this problem went away. I would seriously suggest you harrass your management for an upgrade to your HP3000. Whilst HP aren't selling any new HP3K servers, there are plenty around in the reseller market.

Don't forget it's going to take you some time to setup shareplex, resolve any operational issues of keeping the data in sync etc.

Whatever you choose, best of luck.

Hello Robert,

The most obvious solution is Shareplex/iX, which does exactly what you require, including TurboImage databases, KSAM files, flat files and a few others. AFAIK, the product is still available from HP.
