 It would be very useful to have as much information as possible on what
precisely the batch job is doing (or more likely the program(s) within it).
Such as;

    Assuming that each of the 3.2 million records is being read, how many
are being updated? Is this number increasing? Are
    any other datasets read and/or updated at the same time?

    What is the locking strategy?

Please get back asap.
