Thanks to Greg Chaplin for pointing me directly to hpspoolid. That does
simplify things. That leaves the rest of the idea to flesh out. I would have
thought that someone else has had to have a job read its own stdlist.
As for other suggestions, the program does not, as far as I can tell, set
CIERROR, a JCW, or any other variable, based on what I could see in the
code. I plan to add SHOWJCW and SHOWVAR to confirm this assumption. But if I
am going to change the code, I would rather address the underlying problem,
than change code to introduce a work-around. Presumbably, the author thought
that there was a reason why the code should exit when an intrinsic call
returned a non-zero value. Rather than committing larger amounts of time to
an issue that no one else considers serious, I thought that I would work
around the problem in the job stream itself, to automate the automatic
restart, as directly and obviously as possible.
As for using MPEX, we don't have any of VeSoft's tools. So, another issue I
will need to examine later is password expiry and general security. In my
other post about holidays, I mention the lack of any scheduler; no MPEX, no
STREAMX.
