Scratching An Old Disc

I have an old disc, that shows up on mapper properly,
on a test machine.  But the system won't boot, is it
likely the old disc is a former LDEV 1 in a previous
life?  

My guess it conflicts with the current MPEXL_SYSTEM_VOLUME_SET.

(Assuming the above is true, then presume I'll need to run
discexpt to re-format it ... since test machine, then no 
support, then no password for discexpt ... accccch!)
