Now that Paul raises the possibility of "SP" being a holdover from the classic days, it seems to me there was a capability associated with spooling. A user with SP capability could do things like SUSPENDSPOOL, RESUMESPOOL, STARTSPOOL, etc. Again, this is a vague memory and may be a figment of my imagination. Perhaps someone with some old Classic manuals could add some clarity...

Subject: Re: User Capability "SP" ??

Brian,

I'd venture to say that it's more likely that the 'SP' capability is a
'left over' from the MPE/V or even earlier.

That statement is based on the following:
1. An error resulted when I tried using said capability in the 'altacct',
'altuser', and 'altgroup' commands.

2. I have a utility that can generates a stream file to recreate an MPE
account (with all its groups and users). Said utility was written in the
mid eighties and it does provide for handling said capability.

3. While searching an old LaserRom CD I found the following under the "OPT
3000 On-Line Performance Tool" entry:
      ...

Capability List - The list of the users' capabilities. The
capabilities are listed in three groups:

          Group 1.SM,AM,OP,AL,GL

          Group 2.DI,UV,LG,ND,SF,CS,CV,SP,PS,NA,NM

          Group 3.PM,PH,DS,MR,IA,BA
      ...

Regards
Paul Christidis
