Hi All,

I have a contract role for a Unix/MPE System Engineer in London (6
months) -

UNIX / MPE System Engineer


Position responsible for installing, testing, maintaining,
documenting, & providing technical support for UNIX and MPE systems.
Performs UNIX planning evaluation & testing, assists in planning hardware
changes, & providing training & assistance to the existing operations
staff.
Performs other related tasks in the operations dept.


a.. Excellent knowledge of SOLARIS 8.0
b.. In depth knowledge of SUN server hardware
c.. At least 3 years solid experience of working in a Unix
environment
d.. Support of International HP3000 systems to include capacity
management, planning, backup & job scheduling
e.. HP3000 Server and application recovery
f.. Excellent knowledge of security within a Unix environment
g.. Excellent knowledge of Logical Volume Manager
h.. Provides concise documentation of installation, configuration
and operational procedures.
i.. Provides technical support to applications & operations staff on
use of system software.
· Participates in feasibility studies for installations of new
hardware.
· Supports installations planning for hardware or applications
program requirements & coordinates corresponding system software changes.
· Performs UNIX software product evaluation, including
planning, installations, testing, & technical support for the applications
and /or computer operations staff.
· Communicates with & provides assistance & training to
operations staff to assure proper knowledge transfer.
· Installs, configures, & troubles shoots UNIX & other related
network configurations.
· Provides management with status reports.
· Establishes, develops & maintains business relationships
with systems & programming group, applications support personnel, computer
operations groups, vendors, & other groups.


· Approximately 5 years of systems administration and 3 years
of SOLARIS experience required.
a.. 3 years plus experience of installation & configuration of
HP3000 systems
· Must have strong understanding & experience with
implementation of logical volume management (LVM).
· Familiar with HP3000 3rd party software such as Adager, JMS,
Nbspool, Data Express, MPEX, and Fantasia
· Must have experience with trouble shooting UNIX related
operating network configurations.
· Knowledge of Monitoring tools, Job Schedulers, Systems
Performance Tools required.
· Shell scripting/programming desired.
· Kernel Turning desired.
a.. Experience of Microsoft networking required..
