i have a grep-based script that has the following line in it...
grep.hpbin.sys "-i '!search_string'" < thisfile
'thisfile' is what you are calling srfl....
fwiw, the bulk of my script is checking just what 'thisfile' is prior
to passing it to grep. oddly, grep doesn't seem to like
oh....say...msg files....and program files....and most anything too
advanced for it's feeble mind :-) - d
