I don't remember the joke either.  I only remember 
he was the guest speaker at HPWorld 2000(?), so he 
probably had been briefed and substituted "MPE" as
an object in one of his punch lines.

When I heard him say the same jokes on a late night 
talk show 3 months later (sans MPE), did I realize 
he doesn't change his material as frequently as he 
should.
