I later backed off from that position, realizing that resentment and anger
should not be part of a business decision.

Maybe, but deterrence & credibility CAN be part of a business decision. If
we say HP has to do something or suffer some consequence (such as being
boycotted for life), and they don't do what we request, then it is perfectly
legitimate to make them suffer that consequence.

I'm pretty much at that point. It is 99.9% certain that if HP doesn't play
nice with OpenMPE, then when/if we migrate off MPE we will also move away
from HP. 99% certain that we will never buy another HP computer for any
reason except to run MPE (leaving open the possibilities of a used n-class,
and/or an emulator running on HP hardware). So HP itself has nothing to
gain by stonewalling, and their strategic partners have less to gain than
(for example) IBM's buddies like Sector7 & PIR Group.

I think HP doesn't realize that other divisions have something at stake too.
They have already lost our switch & Wintel-server business, and when/if we
move off MPE they probably lose our printer & tape-drive business too.
