There is indeed a temporary file involved. I performed the following test:
1. Copied XL.PUB into XLTEMP
2. Invoked LINKEDIT and issued the command XL XLTEMP
3. Established another session and using GLANCE I monitored the PIN for
LINKEDIT in my first session.
4. I displayed the open files under the LINKEDIT pin.
Below is the display. Note that XLTEMP.SUPUTIL.SYS appears twice, once in
the PERM domain and once in the NEW. So there IS a window of opportunity.
