The most prudent thing to do in these circumstances is believed to be to
presume that catastrophe always lies just around the corner and act
accordingly,
and that's very much the premise that underlies the Kyoto protocol.

--------------------

That's not the 'prudent' thing, that is the reckless thing. The prudent
thing to do is to watch the situation carefully and have an action plan
for when things do go badly.

The other prudent thing to do is to analyse the data carefully and
have a reasoned approach for discovering more about the situation,
and try to filter out as much of the 'politics' as possible. That
last part is just about hopeless, and gets worse all the time.

--------------------

So, I think this study is a flight of fancy
that the Rush Limbaughs of the world will use as a cudgel against us,
reinforcing the sense of the guy on the street that we're Cassandras, or
worse, charlatans seeking to further our research agendas.

--------------------

This is exactly why I discount most of the stuff about the environment,
because there are too many vocal kooks why try to cloak themselves in
legitimacy and drown out the legitimate ones.
