we ran into something similar....took us the longest time to figure it
out....

if you've got dtc's connected to this box, check the heartbeat setting.
 prior to moving to our n-class box, we used <ack> dtc manager and
rejoiced greatly with the thought of being able to get rid of it.  of
course, heartbeat in that scenario was a non-issue.  with host-based,
dtc control, it's a different story.         - d
