You can use the CTRL "V" function when doing a search and replace, too.
However, I'd never heard of using the decial value. I'd always just found
the control character I wanted (Like ctrl-g is a bell) and typing that.
So, to insert a bell, I'd type "ctrl-v" "ctrl-g". If you know the control
character, you should be able to do it.
