I agree with you there. I've NEVER thought that there should be marital
benefits other than the legal rights referencing property divisions and
care decisions.
However, I don't see those "benefits" (as well as the tax benefits)
ever being repealed. Consequently, disallowing same sex marriages is
prejudicial to gays and lesbians.
It appears that that's the only way for them to achieve a modicum of
"equality".
