I have seen this quotation frequently, most recently in Fred White's posting. Can anyone provide the
exact source or context? I looked at about 15 Google entries before I became exhausted. The quote is
there but is listed only with attribution to Galileo and no other information. The edition of
Bartlett that I have at hand does not even list Galileo.
