We have an AutoRAID 12H on our 928/RX MPE 6.0 PP2. (For those who are going
to jump in and recommend other hardware, please see my note at the bottom).

The JARMSRVD daemon eats up a large portion of CPU. When it is stopped,
system performance improves significantly.

Does the ARM server daemon need to run all the time? I know HP recommends
running it continuously. But is it really necessary?

I know it logs array performance. But ever since the first month or so I
have never seen the performance recommendations tell me anything new. Once
the array was tuned to our usage, nothing ever seems to change. So why slow
the system down running it all the time?

I also need it to do array commands. I maybe do array commands once every
couple of weeks at the most. So would it be acceptable to run JARMSRVD on
demand when I needed to do array commands?

(Yes, I know we should have used a Mod20 or other device. The original
decision was not mine. Under current financial restraints new hardware is
not going to be approved. I have to live with the AutoRAID. So any
discussion of replacing it is useless to me at this point. Please stick with
the question)
