Chad,

I'm really disappointed that you've chosen the low road with this, but so be
it...

(Folks, we're talking about a small 957 here, with 8GB of SCSI disk.) Chad,
the box you sent me had the serial numbers deliberately removed. You
"fixed" that by sending me a new CPU board and the matching back cover WITH
serial numbers. You were then, and supposedly still are, in the process of
transferring the license for that machine. I'm perfectly happy to back up
that assertion by posting our entire email thread to the -L if you like; my
original request for quotes, to which you responded, is already in the -L's
archive.

The disks included with that system were BOTH bad; all attempts to get you
to do anything about them were ignored, and I went to our 3rd party hardware
support outfit to get replacements installed (after spending countless hours
assuming I was doing something wrong trying to get them to work).

"Telephone support"? "both were tested before they were shipped"? uh,
right. Your testing apparently consisted of "yep, it will boot from tape" -
again, the disks were both bad! Our phone conversations consisted entirely
of your weaseling to push the sale through and then trying to cover your
butt with a slightly more legit sale by providing serial numbers, also
claiming that license transfers were "in the works".

A really flaky sale, NO support at all, and a year later I still have no
license. Well, thanks for at least attending to the no serial numbers
problem, which you did despite having "changed employers" (irrelevant: I
bought the system from YOU). Unfortunately, I'm still sitting on a box I
can't legally run.

Based on your apparently convenient memory I have to suggest that you pursue
a "Do you want fries with that?" career. Your future with the HP licensing
bureacracy is quite understandably going to be difficult. At least the
legit resellers will get a good chuckle here.

Word to the wise: don't shop based on price alone! Even though our
respondent (Chad) claimed to meet our spec (which clearly included
"licensable") and came in with the best price, I'd now be MUCH better off if
I'd had the good sense to ask the -L about shady resellers; I found Chad the
hard way.
