Hello Gary, all,

RE: NETXPORT TCP SIP

TCP connections use is dependant on your networked applications. Telnet or Virtual Terminal session's typically use 1 connection per user, but may use more if multiple windows are opened to a host. FTP typically uses 2 connections per request, but with an MPUT or MGET can have active as many data connections as files can be transferred in a 2 minute period. Web applications can open & close 'many' TCP connections per web page, icon, picture, etc within a 2 minute period. Apparently CSTM can use 'many' TCP connections. One must keep in mind that when a TCP connection is opened and closed it continues to exist on the system for 2+ minutes (maximum "time to live" TTL *2) to assure any outstanding packets for a connection in the network are not received on a new instance (reuse) of a TCP connection id. The default as per NMMGR recommendation is 1024... max is 20kb connections. I recommend every system be configured for at least the default and to use nettool;info="stat;tcp;tcpg
@;quit" displaying the “Number of connections currently open” stat to monitor the actual number of connections. I would want go be configured for 2* the maximum seen reported by NETTOOL at an increment of 256.
