Hi, everyone. As we head off for the weekend, I wanted to remind you of our
upcoming Patten event.
On Tuesday, October 28th, Patten Performances presents Kim and Reggie
Harris performing Songs of the Underground Railroad at 7:30 pm in the
Roland W. Hayes Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Center.
This first of two programs ushering in the 140th anniversary of The Battles
for Chattanooga is our third look at our rich cultural traditions. The
rich, multi-media program features titles like: "Wade in the Water," "Steal
Away" and "Free at Last." I have been living with a recording of this music
for over two years, and I assure you this will be an enlightening and
engaging evening of stories and spirituals by consummate performers.
In a special campus appearance, The Chattanooga Choral Society for the
Preservation of African American Song, directed by our own Roland Carter,
composer, arranger and Ruth S. Holmberg Chair of American Music, will
perform with Mr. and Ms. Harris.
A related aside: Ms. Harris has recently completed an opera for young
audiences, FRIENDS OF FREEDOM: An Underground Railroad Story.
