Everyone,
Before you leave for a well earned break, take a moment to note the
upcoming exhibitions in the Cress Gallery of Art, UTC Fine Arts
Center.that will open just after your return next week.

On Thursday, October 23, the Cress will host an opening reception for
our newest exhibitions "Mary Carrithers: New Drawings" and "Les
Danseurs: Photographs by Andy Zaller".  These exhibitions will run
until Dec. 01, 2003.  The Gallery is open M-F from 9:30 - 5:00, and
also during all Patten Series events in the FAC.

Mary Carrithers, a Chattanooga based artist, will solo in the main
gallery with 24 large color pastel drawings.  She places her
subjects, both the figure and still life, in fluid compostions that
are astonishinly accomplished in technique and execution.  This body
of work is truly accessible at many levels.

I hope you all will be able to drop by to meet Mary during the
opening and later have a chance to visit the Cress during the
exhibition's run.  Mary  has a special connection to the campus; she
happens to be the wife of Dr. David Carrithers, UTC Ochs Professor
and Head of the Department of Political Science.
