Hi .. been off for a long time - became part of the unemployed

Not sure about the other countries but from what I remember from history
subjects in school there were 3 major groups of people who came to the
philippines. First was what was called the "pygmy people" (books gave them
this name not me - short people, curly hair, dark skin) from the African
continent. They came at a time when there were still "land bridges"
connecting the continents. Also, they are what's normally considered as the
"indigenous aborigine". After them came the Indonesians by boat and then
the Malaysians. I don't remember the interval between their arrival but I
think it was hundreds of years inbetween.
Then came the Spaniards that occupied the Philippines for more than 300
years. After that the Americans for some decades and the Japanese for a few
years (WWII). You also have the early Chinese traders as well as those who
escaped China during the early communist revolution.
That's why if you go to the Philippines you will see a lot of
differences in physical/mental and cultural traits. Do Filipinos in general
resent being called "Asians" - in general I think no. The funny thing about
Filipinos is that our culture and people are so diverse that we actually
"categorize" each other. Filams (Filipino-Americans), Mestizos/mestizas
(usually thos with spanish blood), tsinoys (Filipino-Chinese), Bumbay
(Filipino-Indians) .. then you have the provinces - Ilokano (Ilocos),
Cebuano (Cebu) etc. Being called "Asian" is just another name, besides it's
true .. so as long as it's not said in a demeaning way then it's ok with
us.

I've done some reading about the people of Micronesia, Melanesia, and
Polynesia, and know that they began thier voyage through the Pacific from
South East Asia. So I gave some thought to the idea of Pacific Islanders
being associated with Asians. I was tempted to argue that there is a close
connection, but stopped just in time to save my teeth. :-)) ...But I have a
question. Are the people of The Philipines, Indonesia, Papua, and Tawain
the
direct descendents of the people who were living in these areas 3500 years
ago? Papua remained isolated for most of the time, but what about The
Philipines? I think I recall mention of indigenous aborigine there.
(There's
another colonialistic word.) So, if there were different ethnic groups in
The Philipines, Tawain, and Indonesia 3500 years ago (known as indigenous
aborigines), then they were the people who populated the Pacific. And, the
Pacific Islanders of today would be less connected to the S.E. Asians of
today. ...And if the people living in S.E. Asia today, are not direct
descendents of the people living there 3500 years ago, then when, and from
where, did they arrive?
