Yes, I know. I think that a few years ago anyone could get various vendor
certifications without much real knowledge. The resulting limited capabilities
of some "certified" people has I think...
a) caused the vendors to toughen up their exams
b) encouraged employers to ask for these certs as something of a
'prerequisite'
As far as I can tell, the trend is that the exams are becoming harder and the
resulting certifications are becoming more and more meaningful. Note that
someone with the highest level Cisco Certification ("CCIE") is being treated
with a 'this guy can walk on water" attitude. The multiple CCIE exams are
reported to be quite difficult.
Also note that major vendors (M$, Cisco, Novell, Oracle etc.) are pushing
their certification programs. They have a vested interest in making their
certifications valuable to both employees and employers.
Worth thinking about. Careers are important and the roadmap for MPE-istas is
pretty murky.
