Just curious, I wonder if 'rm' would work? I know 'rm' doesn't do all
the double/triple checks that the M.P.E. PURGE command may do.
After the NORECOVERY NOSYSSTART
LOGON with SM capability using HELLO MANAGER.SYS;HIPRI;PARM=-1
Once logged on:
RUN RM.HPBIN.SYS;INFO="/VESOFT/BACKG/YINPUT"
Other than that; I have vague memories of a utility that would repair
the BAD VARIABLE BLOCK in the file, any one remember?

When you boot your system do a
START NORECOVERY NOSYSSTART
This will eliminate the UDC's and should free up your files then reboot
again
without the nosysstart
