Dr. Richard Jackson, UC Foundation Professor of English, recently received
$1,200 from Chattanooga State Technical Community College to help fund the
2002-2003 Meacham Writers’ Workshop.

The Meacham Writers’ Workshop originates from an endowment grant made by
Jean Meacham to UTC to foster growth between university and community
writers and readers. In accordance with Ms. Meacham’s vision, Dr. Jackson
has developed the long-standing Meacham Writer’s Conference, an informal
gathering where national and local professional writers exchange ideas with
student and novice writers. These interactions allow for creative flow
between the professional and amateur groups, and the exchange is especially
valuable to the young writers who receive tremendous encouragement from
their mentors.

Congratulations to Dr. Jackson for securing support for this workshop.
