Jay,

with the introduction of the e-business related tools Webserver, Sendmail,
all based on the Posix shell, (the old) HP decided to demonstrate the "new"
ability of MPE not only in the name of the OS MPE/iX some years before, but
also in the name of the whole series by adding the "e" for eBiz.
In the beginning, there were also new labels for the existing servers
available to demonstrate this on the plates.
It was a pure marketing action to set the HP3000 in a better light against
the other e-strategies of IBM et al.
In the end, unfortunately, this was the beginning of the end of this
fabulous environment.
Nowadays, the "e" symbolizes the END for 3000:
(the new) hp ends 3000 => hp e3000    ;-)

Greetings,

Can any one let me know if there is a difference between HP3000 and
HPe3000.

If different, can you pls. share your thoughts. Any pointers in this regard
would behighly helpful.
