where did my printer cierr messeges go??

Hello,

   When our printer runs out of ink, or paper, or gets a jam it
sends a messege to console every 30 seconds or so with the error
messege. Someone has changed something though becuse no messeges
are coming through...
 If someone could remind me on how to configure the warning
messeges it would be much appricated. Some of our printers are
in another room and esp. the our of paper messeges come in real
handy..
