Thanks for the replies.

I was really after something like an alarm clock, where you could set
a particular time and it would 'go off'.  But more like a stop watch,
where a timer would 'count down' from a preset time and sound an alarm
continuously until it was shut off.

I suppose I could break open the piggy bank and buy an oven timer,
but why do that whan I have a perfectly good PC and you guys?  ;->
