COMPANY NEWS; HEWLETT CHIEF'S PAY TOPPED $10 MILLION IN 2002
The chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, Carleton S. Fiorina, received a pay
package worth more than $10 million last year, while Michael D. Capellas, the
former president, received more than $26 million after resigning, according
to materials sent to shareholders. Ms. Fiorina, who helped engineer the
acquisition of Compaq Computer, received a $1 million salary and $2.9 million
bonus. She also received stock options valued at $6.8 million. Mr. Capellas,
the former chief executive of Compaq who left Hewlett last year, received a
salary of $800,000, a bonus of $1.9 million and severance of $14.4 million.
The company also gave him $9.6 million to cover taxes. He became chief
executive of WorldCom Inc. in November, where he will be paid as much as $5
million in salary and bonuses and $18 million in stock.
