Further thoughts regarding dataset erase and running batch loads:
I.E. AMISYS:SERVICE dataset is usually the largest dataset in the
database. There have been times where the following served well:
1. Extract the dataset with SUPRTOOL to a hold file.
2. Perform load/archiving/deletes/whatever.
3. Verify results.
If #2 didn't work correctly for whatever reason, use your
favorite/favourite DB utility to erase the dataset and SUPRTOOL to
restore the dataset to it's prior state using the hold file.
This can be a weekend saver when your SERVICE dataset has ten or twelve
million entries and your time window doesn't allow restoring the entire
database. As everyone using AMISYS knows, archiving claim data gets to
be a problem after five years or so....
