There are several things you can do. Some free, others inexpensive (at
least). but they boil down into two main choices:

  * you can write a program that runs directly upon the linux system in a
variety of languages to make ODBC calls against the 3000.
  * you can write a program that runs on the 3000 and writes to the database
on the linux system via ODBC

In the not neccessarilly free category for Linux is a pogramming environment
called "Kylix" from Borland. This is a port of their "Delphi" product to
linux, so if you are familiar with vb/delphi "RAD" programming, you can
transfer that knowledge to programming on the linux side of the fence. While
there is a "free" version of kylix (their so-called "open edition"), I don't
beleive the OE version has any database components -- you would need the
"professional" version at roughly $250 for that.
