I can't help myself. The most recent CNN/USA TODAY, Gallup Poll
results indicate that, still 70% of the American public, at least of those
polled continue to favor the war. Not the soldiers, the war.
It's probably also fair to say that neither CNN nor USA Today are
necessarily big war fans or big Bush fans. While I did not see the CNN
video, in light of the "doctored" LA Times photograph (acknowledged and
apologized for by them), can we be sure that what we saw was reflective of
what was happening? Why were the troops "forcing" them out of their
home? And even if they were, as a street cop for many years, having their
guns drawn on people they do not know might not harm them is certainly not
unreasonable.
I wonder if anyone noticed the fear and terror on young Elian
Gonzalez' face when he was forcibly removed. That people are frightened
during wartime is to be expected - it does not call in to question the
morality or legality of this war (which is both morally and legally
justified, IMHO).
